Gießener is making a film about the German basketball legend – FFH.de

Per Günther is one of the faces of the German basketball Bundesliga. A filmmaker from Giessen accompanied the athletes with his camera during the last season. The result is the documentary “PER”, which celebrates its exclusive premiere in October at Kinopolis in Giessen.

Blonde with curly hair Per Günther is the highlight of the Ulm basketball scene. What many people don’t know: Per Günther is a real Mittelhesse player! He was born in Gießen and has faced the basketball players of the Giessen 46ers on the floor many times. The basketball player ended his career this year after a total of 14 years with the club ratiopharm ulm and exactly 500 games in the basketball league. Director Tim Kraushaar from Giessen and his team have been with Per for a year.

Film Gießener Per Günther of the last season

The result of about 100 hours of filming over the past 12 months can be seen by those interested in basketball and sports documentaries on October 17 at Kinopolis Gießen. In just 70 minutes, the documentary “PER” shows the highs and lows of Per Günther last season. There are interviews with Per himself, but also with other basketball greats such as former national players Jan Jagla, John Bryant or Basti Doreth. But it will not only be sports: in addition to training and games, the film team around Tim Kraushaar from Gießen is also there during very personal moments.

Basketball players are private

The film shows the 34-year-old Ulm athlete with the number 6 shirt, who is known to basketball fans and the media for his honest and humorous nature and who recently commented on the European basketball tournament as an expert, for example while playing golf with his friends, at dinner with his wife Leonie and his two young sons or while cleaning the apartment, as Tim Kraushaar told us in advance.

The cinema premiered in the basketball city of Giessen

Giessen filmmaker Tim Kraushaar himself plays basketball in Ulm, his brother Bjarne is on the Giessen 46ers team for the past few years. Tim Kraushaar is currently studying at the Film Institute in Ludwigsburg, and “PER” is his first major directorial work. All the great happy that he can bring his film directly to the cinema. The documentary celebrated its major public premiere at Kinopolis in Giessen. “I still have a good relationship with my hometown Gießen. It means a lot to me that we can show the movie in the basketball city,” Kraushaar, 25, said in an interview with HIT RADIO FFH.

Per Günther arrived in central Hesse

Per Günther himself will also be there – perhaps the last chance for fans to get a photo or autograph with the former professional athlete. Günther moved to Hamburg with his family shortly after his last game in the summer of 2022 and also revealed in the documentary that he now wants to devote himself entirely to his personal life.
