Due to the positive corona test, Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzk left the camp of German national football players. Two players were nominated.
Corona interrupted the plans of Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka. Both are infected with the virus and therefore left the camp of the German national football team. Both players are currently asymptomatic. This was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Wednesday. Julian Brandt also left the hotel of the national team. In contrast to the pair from FC Bayern Munich, the corona test for the offender from Borussia Dortmund was negative. According to the DFB, Brandt has a flu infection.
All three professionals will be out of the Nations League finals on Friday in Leipzig against Hungary and on Monday in England. The cause of the infection is the corona case in the personal environment of one of the two Bayern Munich specialists. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann from TSG Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold were nominated.
Upon arrival, the test was still negative
International coach Jonas Hofmann said on the DFB campus a few minutes after the two positive cases were announced that “of course, the alarm will be turned off.” When they arrived in Frankfurt/Main on Monday, Neuer and Goretzka submitted a negative antigen test – but the medical department was called on Wednesday morning. “She performed well, quickly and accurately,” confirmed Hofmann.
After all, national team doctor Professor Tim Meyer and his team have experience. Niklas Süle only tested positive in November 2021, and Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Karim Adeyemi are also out as contacts at that time.
Further test results of the next few days will show that other national players are absent – on Wednesday the rest of the DFB entourage was initially negative. However, Neuer arrived at the German team’s hotel in a shuttle with Kimmich and Leroy Sane. The entire Bayern team participated in the Munich Oktoberfest on Sunday.
